Subject: The Cassette in the woods
I had the 3rd set on cassette back in the day. Me and a friend ate some caps in the woods and put the tape in the old boom box. Holy shit! At 5:50 in to The Other One they create what sounds to me like the illusion of playing backwards. It's as if the train put its breaks on and was screeching to a stop. "WTF was that"? I cried. There was a point during drums when the band came in and created another illusion of like sound spilling over after the drums bubbled the instruments up to the surface and over the top. Its not music...its something else! This is best heard on the DP version. Then they close with the "Walking In Jordan" version of We Bid You Goodnight. I had never heard this prior to that night and I will never forget the effect it had on me. This remains one of my all time favorite sets in GD history. The acid bond was sealed that night for sure.

this is where the dead started for me...and the next nights show...but the tracks that made up bears choice, the first time I heard the boys. I was 15 and loved the artwork on the album and had no idea who they were, but I loved 'em right away and this run is still my favorite, mostly because its where it started for me.....took a long time for me to be able to see them, living in maine and no drivers license kept me close to home. you can find some sketchy video (good audio) on you tube if you search the date. ciao bella!

I usually review SQ not the performance but this is a special show. This Dark Star is *the* greatest performance of any song at any show the Grateful Dead ever played. Considering that it's mostly improvised it's almost unbelievable that they were able to do it. Some day I'd like to sit down with the surviving members and talk to them about it as we listen. For now at least we can be right there in the audience. Thanks for sharing!

this is a pretty good AUD. The nice thing is here we get the complete show which makes it well worth the download. Much thanks to all that made it available.
